Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding The Model

  • A traditional end-of-life doula focuses on emotional and spiritual comfort—and that's invaluable. My practice builds on that foundation by adding clinical expertise. As a board-certified nurse practitioner, I can monitor symptoms, interpret medical information, identify gaps in care, and advocate directly with your medical team as a clinical peer. It's a blend of compassionate presence and medical fluency.

  • No. I work alongside your existing care team as an independent advocate. Because I'm not employed by a hospital or insurance company, I'm not limited by their schedules or policies. I serve as your liaison—making sure your priorities guide your care, no matter where you receive it.

  • Bedside support means being there as a steady, knowledgeable presence during important moments. I don't perform medical procedures, but I do monitor your comfort, answer questions, support your loved ones, and make sure the focus stays on you and not just the clinical tasks.

While I do not provide direct medical treatment or prescribe medication in this role, I provide the clinical oversight to ensure your prescribed care is being managed correctly.

Logistics & Location

  • Yes. I provide in-person support at your home, in the hospital, or at doctor's appointments. Being there in person means I can advocate in real time, observe what's happening, and make sure your voice is heard.

  • Absolutely. While I can't be there in person, I work with clients nationwide through video and phone consultations. Distance doesn't limit my ability to help you understand test results, evaluate care options, or prepare for important medical conversations.

  • As an independent advocate, I do not participate in or bill insurance (including Medicare/Medicaid).

This allows me to remain a neutral, third-party liaison dedicated solely to your interests, free from institutional constraints.

    • Payment: All services are invoiced via a secure digital portal.

    • Flexible Support: If you don't see a package that fits your unique situation, please reach out for a custom consultation.

Timing & Next Steps

  • Support is valuable at any stage, but it's most effective when you don't wait for a crisis. Whether you're newly diagnosed, facing difficult decisions, or feeling lost in the system, advocacy and navigation can help.

    Common times to reach out:

After a diagnosis – When you need help understanding what comes next and what your options really mean.

At a crossroads – When treatment goals change or you're weighing difficult choices and need an objective perspective.

During uncertainty – When the healthcare system feels overwhelming, confusing, or like it's moving at the wrong pace entirely.

As you approach end of life – When you or your loved ones need compassionate guidance through care transitions and final wishes.

You deserve clarity and support from the start- not just when things become unmanageable.

  • Yes, I help with pre-planning. While I don't coordinate funeral services, I provide guidance and resources to help you explore options like green burials, traditional services, and after-death care. We can document your wishes now, so your loved ones have clarity when the time comes—not decisions to make during grief.

  • Start with a complimentary discovery call. You don't need to prepare anything—no records, no documents. This is simply a conversation to hear your story and see if we're a good fit. If we are, we'll create a plan that works for you.
